Connecting power to your home
Find out what you need to know to get powered properly - whether you're building, renovating or even installing solar to your home.
Different projects need different types of power connections. Whether you're building, renovating or installing solar, it's important to choose the right option.
Restore power after a disconnection. If your retailer disconnected you, contact them first.
For changes like increasing supply or adding solar or batteries.
For short-term needs on building sites.
If you're not sure which type of connection you need - just ask your electrician or ASP.
Your role vs our role
More information on which ASP is appropriate for your project can be found here
When you need to get connected, just follow these five simple steps:
Confirm what type of connection you need, then we’ll work with your ASP to help get your power connected safely.
Your ASP will usually submit your application through our online Connections Portal - but you can also do it too.
We’ll send you the details - including costs, timing and what needs to happen next.
This might include trenching, metering or installing a private pole. Your ASP will guide you through this.
Once everything is ready, we’ll switch on your power and get you connected.
Every connection is different. The time it takes to connect your property will depend on your ASP’s availability, site access and how quickly requirements are met. Complex projects, like large developments or network upgrades, usually involve more steps and may take longer than standard residential connections.
The cost of a connection varies depending on the type of service, your site conditions and any additional work needed (like metering or trenching). Your ASP can give you a detailed quote based on your job.
Delays can happen if your site isn’t ready or access is restricted. To avoid any rescheduling or added costs, make sure your site is safe and accessible for the scheduled date before your ASP arrives.
Ensure your site is ready before your scheduled work date. This will help us to keep your connection on track and avoid delays.
