Our role and strategy in the energy sector
We play an important role in the supply of electricity and will continue to do so as we are transition from a traditional ‘poles and wires’ business, to help deliver a cleaner energy future.

Working towards a brighter energy future
It’s an exciting time in energy.
The rapid advancements in renewable energy technology is driving change, creating new opportunities and challenges for our energy network as we move from a traditional poles and wires model to a flexible modern grid. With a firm focus on the shift to a cleaner, greener and lower carbon energy future, we’re committed to enhancing the resilience and long-term sustainability of our network.
This will allow us to use more renewable energy and move away from the tradition ‘top down’ supply model, enabling the integration of Distributed Energy Resources (DER) like rooftop solar systems, batteries, smart meters and electric vehicles.
Our network design for the future is focused on embracing these changes to permit equitable access to all users of DER. We’re investing in new technologies to provide customers with more choice and control on how they use and receive energy. That includes the rollout of community batteries, electric vehicle interfaces, smart meters and advanced analytics to enable the management and trading of DER.
What it means for your energy

When it will happen
We're already working to address changes in energy demand and consumption, as well as the impact this has on a constantly evolving network.
We’re driving continual improvements, such as voltage management, while embracing new, more efficient technologies, to deliver better services to customers.
As we continue to evolve the grid, we will bring even more renewable energy into the grid, facilitate multi-directional flows in the energy system and enable the uptake of more cutting-edge innovations.
